Here is my second robot of the day: Johnny five! He was one of my favorite robots growing up. Short Circuit is a great movie, and the sequel actually surpassed it in my opinion. This design of Johnny Five is from the second movie, with his laser shoulder weapon replaced with that red Macguffin box.

This was actually pretty hard to draw. Johnny Five has so many intricate joints and parts, and some of the details were very small, but I think it came out really well!

For my thesis project, I actually look to Short Circuit for inspiration. It begs the question of weather or not artificial intelligence can be “alive” the same way humans are. Both Johnny Five and Capek struggle with the same kind of issues. Short Circuit was not only a fun 80′s comedy, but it could really make you think too.
